Bookmarking made easy

If you own a website or have signed up as an affiliate to promote a website then one of the things you will need to do is to social bookmark the sites so that people will come to visit.

Joining all the social bookmarking sites can be a major chore in & of itself but then when it comes time to actually bookmark your sites it can become an even bigger challenge.

Once you've joined the bookmarking sites you would of course like to be able to bookmark your favorite sites but not all of them have the choice. Adding all the links to your browser and then having to put in your usernames, passwords for each and every bookmarking site you wish to add your favorite site to...now there is a solution. Filed under: kde, auditorRobert volunteers for a St. Louis organization called ByteWorks, which takes old PCs & refurbs them, then teaches kids how to use 'em. At that point, the kids get to keep the PCs. Pretty cool program. Robert is helping them move from old versions of Windows to Linux, which is great. Unfortunately, these machines are so old that ''modern'' Linux desktops like GNOME and KDE are too much. Here's what I suggested: If this was for ''normal'' users we were trying to wean away from Windows, I would push KDE, but that's impossible with this ancient, underpowered hardware. Ice [a window manager] is way too different & weird. Actually, so is KFCE, since it's based on GNOME's ideas about desktops (which are quite bizarre). Have you looked at this? http://www.simplekde.org It's a stripped-down KDE. Or this? http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8239 Another stripped-down KDE. PODCAST: Outsourcing Helps Insurer Attack 80/20, Pursue Innovation

A $1 billion insurance company has sharply reduced its dependence on a brittle 30-year-old mainframe and redeployed many internal IT staffers to new initiatives by outsourcing the hosting, care, and feeding of that mainframe. The three-year project at Harleysville Insurance achieved the top-level goal of shifting big chunks of fixed costs to variable costs and allowed the IT team to focus on higher-value projects.

Brilliant guide to installing software in K/Ubuntu

Linux is more difficult because there's such a variety of packaging formats. Now here comes the excellent How to install ANYTHING in Ubuntu!, which delivers exactly what it says. This puppy covers the package manager as a concept, the APT GUI Synaptic, using APT via the terminal (my preferred method), and how to install a package manually, no matter if that package is a .deb, .rpm, .tar.gz, .sh, .bin, or even a .exe. Microsoft Tells Senator It's Laying Off American And Non-American Workers

When Microsoft announced plans in January to lay off 5,000 workers over 18 months, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, fired off a letter questioning Microsoft about who the company was planning to cut. Grassley wanted to know whether Microsoft -- which has been lobbying Congress for years to raise the cap on H-1B visas -- would cut foreign workers before Americans. Grassley finally got a reply from Microsoft yesterday.
